Scripture Speaks: Treasures in Heaven

A man wants Jesus to settle a family squabble but finds his problem is much bigger than getting his share of an inheritance. Gospel (Read Lk 12:13-21) It’s always a little surprising to see someone in a Gospel story tell Jesus what to do (see also Lk 10:40).  Here, a man calls out, “Teacher, tell …

What the Blood of the Martyrs Means For Us

Christians and non-believers alike reacted with horror in recent days when Rev. Jacques Hamel had his throat slit in Normandy by a terrorist act claimed by ISIS. Peacefully celebrating Mass, the 86-year old priest was murdered, after which the perpetrators exclaimed, “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “God is the greatest”). This priest joins the legions of …

The humble speak for God, Pope says at Czestochowa

Obey the Pope

In a cry coming deep from his holy heart, the Pope [Saint Pius X] summoned all the Church to understand what love for the Pope, any pope, the one who holds the Keys, truly entails: a hard message that, [more than] one century later, must be heard and obeyed by the clergy and by the lay faithful.

"Therefore, when we love the Pope, there are no discussions regarding what he orders or demands, or up to what point obedience must go, and in what things he is to be obeyed; when we love the Pope, we do not say that he has not spoken clearly enough, almost as if he were forced to repeat to the ear of each one the will clearly expressed so many times not only in person, but with letters and other public documents; we do not place his orders in doubt, adding the facile pretext of those unwilling to obey - that it is not the Pope who commands, but those who surround him; we do not limit the field in which he might and must exercise his authority; we do not set above the authority of the Pope that of other persons, however learned, who dissent from the Pope, who, even though learned, are not holy, because whoever is holy cannot dissent from the Pope.

This is the cry of a heart filled with pain, that with deep sadness I express, not for your sake, dear brothers, but to deplore, with you, the conduct of so many... who not only allow themselves to debate and criticize the wishes of the Pope, but are not embarrassed to reach shameless and blatant disobedience, with so much scandal for the good and with so great damage to souls."

Death is Overcome: The Power of the Resurrection

At Easter, we celebrate the Resurrection in a particular way, but this celebration is not meant only for that one day in spring when we can eat chocolate again after a forty-day fast. Rather, every Sunday is to be a reminder of our Easter celebration and of the Lord’s Resurrection. Every Sunday, therefore, when we …

From LifeSiteNews:

Cathedral of the Madeleine

From a Homily by Pope Saint Gregory the Great

"When Mary Magdalen came to the tomb and did not find the Lord's body, she thought it had been taken away and so informed the disciples. After they came and saw the tomb, they too believed what Mary had told them. The text then says: “The disciples went back home,” and it adds: “but Mary wept and remained standing outside the tomb.”

We should reflect on Mary's attitude and the great love she felt for Christ, for though the disciples had left the tomb, she remained. She was still seeking the one she had not found, and while she sought she wept. Burning with the fire of love, she longed for him who she thought had been taken away. And so it happened that the woman who stayed behind to seek Christ was the only one to see him. For perseverance is essential to any good deed, as the voice of truth tell us: “Whoever perseveres to the end will be saved.”

Our knowledge of St. Mary Magdalene, one of Christ’s most devoted followers, is based entirely on the Gospels, which portray her as a disciple of Jesus and as one of the women who followed and ministered to Him in Galilee (Luke 8:1-2). "Do Whatever He Tells You "

The Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our mother, gave us the answer to all the world's problems. It seems too simple, too easy, so much so that her advise is often just ignored. We think we have to figure out clever solutions to the problems of the world, and our own personal problems.

Yet, Our Blessed Mother Mary suggests simply, quietly, docilely, yet with all the power of Heaven, concerning her Son...
 "Do whatever he tells you."
