FRANCISCAN OF THE DAY: St. Louis, Bishop

Louis, son of Charles II, king of Naples, and Mary the daughter of the king of Hungary, was born in the year 1274. While spending his youth as a hostage at the court of the king of Aragon in Barcelona he frequently associated with the Friars Minor. After gaining his freedom he renounced his throne and bade farewell to the world. He was made Bishop of the diocese of Touluse and at the same time received the #Franciscan habit. Louis distinguished himself in poverty, humility and compassion for the poor. He died in the year in 1297.
