Why The Presidential Election Matters, Fr. Marcel Guarnizo

"In order to regain America, we must go back to the foundational idea of America, and for this we may indeed need another great legal mind that understands the fight−precisely because it has been trained for this duty."

"The next president can seal the Supreme Court for years to come with two or three more appointments. When foundational rights are in absolute jeopardy we cannot continue to risk bad appointments as we have seen by even so called conservative presidents."

Feast Day St. John Bosco

St. John Bosco

'Catholic Exchange' Saint of the Day

Happy Feast Day St. John!

John Bosco, founder of the Salesians, is most remembered for his creative ministry to impoverished youth. Through his untiring efforts, ragged and uncouth boys from the streets received schooling, housing, religious instruction, and above all, kindness. Contrary to prevailing practice, he did not believe in punishment to motivate better behavior. He said: "As far as possible avoid punishing….try to gain love before inspiring fear." It was his wish that teachers in his schools should care for their students as if they were their own children.

"There must be not hostility in our minds, no contempt in our eyes, no insult on our lips. We must use mercy for the present and have hope for the future, as is fitting for true parents who are eager for real correction and improvement. In serious matters it is better to beg God humbly than to send forth a flood of words that will only offend the listeners and have no effect on those who are guilty."

"Defund Planned Parenthood!" (Ted Cruz)

"Donald Trump may talk about being being pro-life despite previously saying he's "very pro-choice." But Ted Cruz, on the other hand, has never wavered and led the fight in Congress to defund Planned Parenthood. If you’re ready for a leader who doesn’t just campaign on conservative values, but has spent his entire career defending them, ELECT TED CRUZ!"

St. Gildas the Wise, Saint of the Day

St. Gildas the Wise

Gildas, surnamed “the Wise,” was born in Scotland around the year 516 to a noble family. He was educated under St. Iltus in Wales and was a companion of St. Samson and St. Peter of Leon. He was drawn to the monastic life and moved to Ireland to pursue such a life. While in Ireland he was …

God Alone Suffices

“Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied” (John 14:8). God alone suffices, and all we need to possess him is to see him, because in seeing him, we see all his goodness, as he himself explained to Moses: “I will make all my goodness pass before you” (Ex. 33:19).

Prayer to the Mother of Mercy

Prayer to the Mother of Mercy

O Mother of holy love, our life, our refuge, and our hope, thou well knowest that thy Son Jesus Christ, not content with being Himself our perpetual advocate with the Eternal Father, has willed that thou also shouldst interest thyself with Him, in order to obtain the Divine Mercies for us. He has decreed that thy prayers should aid our salvation, and has made them so efficacious that they obtain all that they ask. To thee therefore, who art the hope of the miserable, do I, a wretched sinner, turn my eyes. I trust, O Lady, that in the first place through the merits of Jesus Christ, and then through thine intercession, I shall be saved. Of this I am certain; and my confidence in thee is such that if my eternal salvation were in my own hands I should place it in thine, for I rely more on thy mercy and protection than on all my own works. My Mother and my hope, abandon me not, though I deserve that thou shouldst do so. See my miseries, and, being moved thereby with compassion, help and save me. I own that I have too often closed my heart, by my sins, against the lights and helps that thou hast procured for me from the Lord. But thy compassion for the miserable, and thy power with God, far surpass the number and malice of my sins. It is well known to all, both in Heaven and on earth, that whosoever is protected by thee is certainly saved. All may forget me, provided only that thou dost remember me, O Mother of an omnipotent God. Tell Him that I am thy servant; say only that thou defendest me, and I shall be saved. O Mary, I trust in thee; in this hope I live; in it I desire and hope to die, repeating always, "Jesus is my only hope, and after Jesus the most blessed Virgin Mary." God bless you all!

The Holy Spirit is Not a Control Freak

A Godly Parent

"Having children is a matter of nature; but raising them and educating them in the virtues, is a matter of mind and will."
 ~ Saint John Chrysostom "

Your children will always be sufficiently wealthy if they receive from you a good upbringing that is able to order their moral life and behavior. Thus, strive not to make them rich, but rather to make them pious; masters of their passions; rich in virtues. Teach them not to think up illusory needs, reckoning their worth according to worldly standards. Attentively watch their deeds, their acquaintances and their attachments.."
 ~ Saint John Chrysostom

"Therefore I beg you to take care for the good upbringing of your children. First of all think of the salvation of their souls. God has placed you as the heads and teachers over your families. It is your duty to watch, and to watch continually after the behavior of your children.."

Power in the Cross

Ted Cruz, working pro bono, defended the Mojave Desert Memorial Cross before the Supreme Court in Salazar v. Buono. That battle was won in a 5-4 decision and the cross still stands. Cruz said the federal judge was right about one thing when he ordered the cross be covered and locked.  “The image of the cross has power,”
Cruz said.

The Spirit of the Lord

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

St. Agnes:

Agnes lived in the fourth century.
