St. Charles Borromeo

St. Charles Borromeo was the son of Count Gilbert Borromeo and Margaret Medici. He was also the nephew of Pope Pius IV. When Pius became pope he gave Charles much responsibility by making him his secretary of state. Charles advised Pope Pius IV during the council of Trent and was made the cardinal and administrator of the see of Milan. In 1563 he was made a priest. He founded the Oblates of St. Ambrose (later made St. Charles). Even though he encountered much opposition, he didn't stop the many reforms he was implementing. He died in Milan and was canonized as a patron of the arts.

O God of justice and of mercy, you guided Saint Charles Borromeo in promoting the full Gospel life of the Church in times of uncertainty and controversy. Through his intercession, continue to renew the Church today to seek the peace of your Kingdom for all people, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
